The Simple Life

As I was watching my children play in the leaves, I was amazed how happy they were.  Children know how to enjoy the simple little blessings of life, that we adults take for granted most of the time.  They were running and giggling, throwing leaves in the air and just having a good time.  Their hearts were light and full of joy.

How many times do we stop to enjoy the beauty of God's creation?  Have you slowed down to look at the marvelous wonder that is all around us each day?  The intricate design of each leaf that changes color in the Fall, or the softness of a rose petal, or the funny sound when you walk through the dead leaves on the ground.  Kids notice these things.  They take it all in and let their minds absorb the splendor.  The don't let the hustle and bustle of life interfere with their imaginations.

We can learn from our children.  We need to put away our phones, tablets, and computers and really just focus on the wonderful world God has made for us.  He made everything so beautiful for us to enjoy.  The colors, scents, and sounds were all created for us to delight in.  I challenge you to spend a couple of hours each day just basking in the beauty of God's exquisite creation.

An Amazing Book of Loving Encouragement

Recently I was blessed by serving on the launch team for a special book by a dear Christian woman named Courtney Joseph.  She is the founder of the Women Living Well blog.  The book is titled Women Living Well, Finding Your Joy in God, Your Man, Your Kids and Your Home.  It has been a wonderful book for wives to read, and learn from the experience of another Christian wife and mom.  Courtney shares her heart and home with us on the pages of this book.  She opens up her life in order to help us see we are not alone.  We have similar feelings and experiences.  You can see that Jesus is evident in her life.  She points us to Him as we serve our husbands and children.  She shows that with God's help and guidance, we are able to be the wives and moms that God intended us to be.

I highly encourage you to get this book and read it with an open heart and mind.  Ask the Lord to guide you through each page.  Look up the verses that Courtney speaks about, and glean what you can from them.  You may not agree with everything that is being said, although I did, but you can learn what the Word says your role is in your home.   I will be posting a quote each day this week and speaking about it here.  I feel this book is a book that I will read several times.  I will also ask my teen girls to read it before they become wives and moms.

It's FRIDAY!

Whew!  We made it through another week :)

I don't know about you, but this one has been tough.  Between homeschooling, writing deadlines, taking care of sick kiddos, and well, just life in general, I am worn out.  I am hoping to have a relaxing weekend with my family.  Nothing is formally planned for tomorrow, so I am hoping to get  few minutes to just sit and not do anything.

You know, when we have weeks like this, we tend to forget about the goodness of God.  We forget that He has blessed us over the week, even in ways we didn't really take time to notice.  No one had to see a doctor, everyone driving to and from work and on errands were protected, there weren't any real emergencies, so why do we forget to count our blessings in the midst of the storms of life?  We need to slow down and stop to see the big picture.  We are ALIVE!  God has given us the very breath that we take without even thinking about it.  How awesome is our God!  He just keeps giving, even when His children don't bother to thank Him.

Take time this weekend to sit and praise God for everything He has blessed you with.  I know I will :)

Tuesday's Training Time

Over the last few days, our family has been battling a stomach virus.  Finally today we all woke up feeling better.  PRAISE GOD!!!

I wanted to post over the weekend, but just didn't get there.  I am sorry.  Today I want to talk about grace.  The definition of grace we will be talking about is "A temporary immunity or exemption; a reprieve."  As we parent, we find ourselves constantly trying to teach our children character and morals.  They are in a training period of their lives.  They are learning how to display these character qualities.  While there is a time and a place where we must discipline them for wrong behavior and choices, there is also a need to give them grace when they fail, just as Christ gives us on a daily basis.

If we want our children to understand the concept of grace and mercy that is mentioned in the Bible we must show them by examples in their daily lives.  When you child fails, first explain to them what they did was wrong and they deserve to be disciplined, but instead of punishing them, show them the concept of grace and mercy.  Get the Bible out and explain to them how Christ shows us grace and how he showed us his grace by dying on the cross for our sins.  He took our punishment for us.  He gave us a reprieve.

Kids need to have fun

I decided to do a Friday's Funnies on our page because we need to have fun.  We need to laugh and enjoy life.  Our kids need to see us smiling on a regular basis.

Kids need us to get on the floor and play with them.  They need to be able to giggle and just let lose.  We need that too.  Do you really enjoy your kiddos, or do you just see them as a responsibility?  When I first became a mom, I was not fun at all.  Being a mom was just a job.  I thought in order to be a good mom that I needed to keep an immaculate home, have well behaved children, and never would I think of playing on the floor with my kids.  I had too much to do.  Play was not on my schedule.

As my children grew and our family grew, God began working in my heart.  He showed me that my kids needed me, not my ability to keep the kitchen floor worthy of eating off of, or no dirty dishes in the sink.  They needed my love and my touch.  They needed me to tickle them and run after them.  They wanted me to play legos or barbies.  I had to change!  I had to realize what really mattered.

Do you need to play more?  Laugh more?  I challenge you to play today :)

I have decided to start a blog for our Facebook page.  I will be able to write articles and share more of our families stories with you.  I believe parenting is the most important job we have here on earth.  Our children are blessings from God and we need to remember that as we parent them and train them to be godly men and women.  I am excited to share many things with you so we can learn from one another.  I want to encourage you along this journey we call parenting.  I am far from a perfect and I need God's grace on a daily basis, but I think sharing our experiences with one another can be uplifting and inspirational.  We can see that we are not alone!
